The small historic village of Tarago is about 40 kilometres south of Goulburn on Braidwood Road. It exhibits some significant historic buildings including the Anglican Church and Loaded Dog Hotel. The hotel was a meeting place for various bushrangers including the infamous Ben Hall. The hotel retains the original stone, brick and timber of that era.

Braidwood is an ideal place to stop and take a break before you leave the high plains and head down the Clyde Mountain and onto Batemans Bay.

The historic village of Nelligen was gazetted in 1854. Operating as a port, produce and minerals from southern New South Wales were delivered to Nelligen for transport by twice-weekly steamer to Sydney; the town was serviced by the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company. There are some historic buildings from that era including the post office, and the catholic and Protestant churches

Today it is a popular riverside holiday destination with great fishing, waterfront camping and a variety of water sports on offer.
