Durras Lake provides calm flat waters perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Regarded as one of the purest estuaries on the east coast, Durras Lake is protected by an untouched forest catchment. Fishing for table fish such as bream, whiting and flathead is as simple as casting from the shore.

Durras Beach is 3km of pristine water with rocky outcrops and lots of gutters. Fishing the right gutter could reward you with bream, flathead, salmon, whiting or the elusive mulloway. The beach itself is very open to the ocean and so conditions can get quite rough on a big swell. It is excellent for beach worming and gathering pippis for bait.

Jetties and break walls are perfect for learning to fish and for fun times with the kids. For a bit more action on foot, pick a beach and take your surf rod down.

The Clyde River and in-shore reefs are a haven for boaties. There are easy catches to be had drifting along sandy or gravely areas in your tinnie or kayak. The estuaries are home to bream, whiting, mulloway and dusky flathead while off the beach you will find plenty of Australian salmon, tailor and gummy sharks.

Further out on the Continental Shelf you’ll find the big game fish such as blue, black and striped marlin, yellowfin tuna and albacore.

Town wharf and the banks of the river offer easy fishing and are a haven for bream, flathead and whiting.

Towards the mouth of the river, Preddys Wharf enjoys regular catches of bream, whiting, flathead, mullet, garfish, trevally, and luderick. If you’re targeting larger fish species, the break wall at North Head can occasionally attract kingfish, tailor, trevally and different species of shark.

Drifting along the beaches and river flats in your tinnie or kayak will likely attract bream and flathead, or heading into the deeper water off Pedro Point and Congo can be rewarding with the chance of hooking a big flathead, snapper, mulloway or kingfish.

Tuross Lake is the jewel in Tuross’ fishing crown. Due to a huge diversity in fish habitats, the lake is home to a wide range of popular sportfish, and is most well-known for its monster flathead. The estuary fishing is superb with big bream, whiting, luderick, estuary perch and mulloway all possible rewards.

Further south around Blackfellows Point and Potato Point Beach offers fantastic beach fishing opportunities for bream , Australian salmon or the occasional mulloway.

Wagonga Inlet offers easy and sheltered fishing and is a great option for learners and families. Fish from the bank or hire a boat to try your luck in the different areas of the inlet. There are plenty of opportunities to catch big flathead, bream, whiting and mulloway.

The nutrient-dense waters around Montague Island are home to an abundance of fish. Take your boat (be aware of the marine sanctuary zones) or jump on a fishing charter for a reef or game fishing adventure targeting anything from kingfish and snapper to big game fish such as tuna and marlin.
